About Us - Who We Are

the Staff
Juliana
- AVI Rehabilitation Teacher
My
students range in age from 5 years to 90 something. Their lesson plans
include everything from learning to tie shoelaces to learning how to
use a magnifier properly. Young people are taught how to do a task for
the first time, while an older person often needs to relearn tasks that
have become difficult due to loss of vision. Most instruction takes place
in the students' homes and is tailored to their specific needs.
Sue
- Teacher of the Visually Impaired
The
purpose of the infant/preschool program is to work with visually impaired
children under the age of 5 and provide training to encourage them to
develop and use what vision they have. Totally blind children are taught
to use their other senses to help them discover, explore and play. Infants
and toddlers are usually seen in the home. Children over 3 are provided
with instruction in their preschools. Needed information and support
is also an important service that is given by the Teacher of the Visually
Impaired to parents and teachers.
Arlene
- Social Worker
"My
most valuable knowledge has come from my clients as they share their
feelings about the difficulties and challenges of living with vision
loss. It is not an easy world to life in." With the help of agency
services, consumers can be helped to regain their sense of worth and
the skills needed to live as independently as possible. The goal is to
enable blind people to live and be treated as competent and respected
individuals.
